The War on Christmas

Is ridiculous. There is no war on Christmas, just a want to include everyone despite their religion. That’s why it’s a “Holiday” parade and not a Christmas parade. It’s a blend of different religious and secular rituals and practices to create something everyone can enjoy.

Our modern celebration of Christmas is actually a blend of pagan rituals with Christian celebration created to attracted European tribes that celebrated Solstice to Christianity. It’s only fitting that we now absorb other traditions from other religions and cultures and have one big “Holiday” at the end of the year. I don’t see what’s wrong with that.

And yes, the United States of America is still a predominately Christian country, but that doesn’t mean we can’t include people of other faiths in our celebrations.

Anyone who has an ounce of religious reverence knows the difference between secular and parochial Christmas, anyway. The gifts, greed and Santa have little to do with the Christian holiday.

Christmas isn’t even the biggest holiday in the Christian calendar, anyway. It’s Easter. Sure the birth of a savior is something to celebrate, but every one is born, there’s really no other way to get here. But resurrection, now that’s something to make a big deal out of. And bunnies really don’t have much to do with tombs and coming back to life.
